Well, it was shiny until reentry. Here is the Apollo 17 CSM as seen from the ascent stage just prior to rendezvous in lunar orbit.
Here is Apollo 11 after splashdown.
Both images courtesy of NASA.gov. There are some excellent pictures available on NASA.gov if you have any interest in aerospace photography.
Maybe people who chrome wrap their cars are just paying homage to Apollo and we’ve just been ignorant of their intentions?

One of the reasons this is a surprise to some is because of the white aft boost protective cover it wore on the ground.
The only photos of the silver CSM were taken by the LCM, and there are far fewer of them.

One of the images before or after the one taken with the astronaut standing next to the rock with the rover on the left has been has been my work desktop for about 10 years.

There is an interesting passage about how they removed the Q-ball cover on Wikipedia.

Nice I rotate mine once in while. 70% of them are from Apollo

I love it that someone thought of that.
“Hmmm, pitot tube cover removed five minutes before launch? Can’t have anyone on the pad? Needs to be pulled away clean and clear? Needs to be light and only keep debris out?”
(looks at desk)
“I’ve got an idea.......”

If only we had a secure way to hold it on that was easy to remove remotely.

I would have loved to take part in that testing.
